Magnus Lindberg is our Composer in Residence this spring and this is our fourth, and last concert.
Lindberg’s short and energetic work “Vivo”, written in 2015, was inspired by Ravel's Daphnis & Chloe. Lindberg also gained inspiration from the music of Debussy, so it is interesting to combine tonight’s programme with Debussy's “La Mer”, one of the major and most influential works of French impressionism.
Lindberg's Concerto for Orchestra received superlatives from international critics following the premiere in 2003 and helped put Lindberg on the map as one of the most notable composers of our time. The energy of the work has been compared to Stravinsky’s “The Rite of Spring” and Messiaen’s Turangalîla-Symphony.
