Hildegunn Gjedrem is a vocalist and composer from Bjerkreim. For many years, Hildegunn was based in New York. Her music is a modern twist on jazz, mixed with pop, classical and Scandinavian folk music – making up her own unique music style. Hildegunn was one of the finalists in the Montreux Vocal Jazz Competition and the winner of the G9alt culture stipend in 2005, as well as Downbeat prizes such as Best Jazz Vocalist in 2005. She has performed with Travis Sullivan’s Bjorkestra, Rufus Reid and Snarky Puppy. Her first album “The End of the Beginning” was released in 2007 and the second “Share Your Secret” was released on the groundUP Music / Ropeadope Records in December 2011. Hildegunn began training as a vocalist at the age of 12. For many years, she had been active as a singer / soloist and conductor of the gospel choir Evlogia from Bryne.  She studied vocal jazz at the University of North Texas. As a teacher, she held a private studio, worked for the University of North Texas’s leading ensembles, taught classes in performing and music theory. She is highly educated as an instructor of vocal technique, style, performance and improvisation.
