Peter Szilvay studied viola and conducting at the Norwegian Academy of Music and is a prominent figure in Norwegian musical life. He made his conducting debut with the Norwegian Radio Orchestra in 1996, as part of his diploma exam, and has since built a wide-ranging career with engagements for leading orchestras in Norway and abroad.
He was conducting fellow with the Stavanger Symphony Orchestra from 1998 to 2000 and won the Norwegian conducting competition “Conductor of the Year” in 1999. Szilvay has worked with orchestras such as the St. Petersburg Philharmonic, Göteborgs Symfoniker, Orchestre Philharmonique de Radio France, and the Royal Danish Orchestra.
He has also had long-standing collaborations with Norwegian orchestras such as the Oslo Philharmonic, Trondheim Symphony Orchestra, and the Norwegian Radio Orchestra, and has conducted at institutions including the Norwegian National Opera & Ballet and Opera Østfold.
