Johan Dalene is a violinist from Sandnes and Norrköping who has quickly established himself as one of the most prominent young soloists in Europe. Known for his expressive tone and strong stage presence, he was named Young Artist of the Year by Gramophone in 2022.
Since winning the Carl Nielsen Competition in 2019, he has performed with orchestras such as the Leipzig Gewandhaus, San Francisco Symphony, and Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, under conductors including Esa-Pekka Salonen, Sakari Oramo, and Antonello Manacorda. He has released several critically acclaimed recordings on the BIS label, featuring works by Sibelius, Nielsen, Ravel, and Prokofiev. Dalene began playing the violin at the age of four and has been part of Norway’s Crescendo programme, collaborating with artists such as Janine Jansen and Leif Ove Andsnes.
