The Stavanger Symphony Orchestra has established its own label: SSO Recordings.
The orchestra has published about 40 CDs to date, and has received numerous awards, including Diapason D’Or (Biondi 2012) and a nomination for Gramophone Awards (Per Nørgård, 2012).
In April 2015 Stavanger Symphony Orchestra, conducted by Rolf Gupta and with violinist Peter Herresthal, recorded two of ØRJAN MATRE´s pieces, preSage and Violin Concerto. The record, relased on BIS, won the Norwegian Grammy (Spellemann Award) in the Tono’s Composer Price Category (photo above).
A large number of the recordings are made for the Swedish BIS label, performing complete orchestral music by Norwegian 20th century composers like Harald Saeverud, Geirr Tveitt and Fartein Valen. The latest release, Allesandro Scarlatti’s opera “Carlo Re d’Alemagna” (3 CDs) with Fabio Biondi conducting, became BBC Music Magazine’s Choice of the Month April 2014.
