The soloist of Sibelius' Violin Concerto is the very talented 20-year-old violinist, Johan Dalene. Tonight's conductor is the American conductor, James Gaffigan.

The Violin Concerto in D minor was written by Jean Sibelius in 1904, revised in 1905. It is his only concerto. It is symphonic in scope, with the solo violin and all sections of the orchestra being equal voices. An extended cadenza for the soloist takes on the role of the development section in the first movement. The soloist of Sibelius’ Violin Concerto is the very talented 20 year old violinist, Johan Dalene. He is already making an impact on the international scene, performing with leading orchestras and in important recital halls both at home in Sweden and abroad.
