Stavanger Symfoniorkester has since 2010 worked strategically to attract a new audience by playing where people are moving.
SSO Underground is one of the concepts established while working with audience recruitment ahead of the opening of the new concert hall in Stavanger. The project is still running years after opening the concert house.
In December 2015 SSO Underground played 13 concerts throughout the region of Rogaland to spread joy with music before the festive season started. The musicians visited asylum seekers, the elderly, cancer patients, school children, teachers, Natteravnere (the Night Ravens) and community leaders. This created enthusiasm and touching experiences for everyone involved.
SSO Underground performs in smaller ensembles, often with a quartet.
